Lords of the Mourning
The World of Eberron
The World of Eberron
The world of Eberron sits within a golden band of sparkling dust and ornamented by 12 moons. It is a world rich in arcane magic, infused through the power of its legendary origins in the Age of Dragons…a massive conflict between three progenitor dragons: Khyber, Siberys, and Eberron. Their battle ended in Siberys’ death by Khyber who was subsequently bound within vibrant Eberron.
Siberys (The Dragon Above)
Stories abound of Siberys’ death at the hands of cruel Khyber. The dragon’s remain’s endured as golden hued “dragonshards” and now cross the dome of the world as a swath of golden dust that stretches from one horizon to the next. During the day this Ring is faint, but at night it glows as a brilliant belt of golden specks weaving through the night sky. Occassionally these specks will fall to the ground where they are collected for their innate arcane power…the dragonshards you’ve heard me reference in game. They are also known as sunstones or starmotes. Beyond this band of golden shards rest 12 moons of varying sizes and phases, beyond this…the stars, and beyond even that…the farthest reaches of the “Dragon Above”…the Astral Sea.
Khyber (The Dragon Below)
Beneath your feet lies Khyber, the Dragon Below, embodied in the Underdark. Still alive, this dragon’s power has been infused into the very earth and stone. Within lie sunken cities and life that Khyber seeks to slowly reclaim. Within its ultimate depths contain pathways to the heart of your world: the infinite vastness of the Elemental Chaos. The power of Khyber is manifested through dragonshards that have a midnight blue to oily black coloration. They are commonly referred to as nightshards or demonstones.
Eberron (The Dragon Between)
The world through which your character walks is a contrast between the splendor and fluidneess of the Dragon Above and the darkness and stableness of the Dragon Below. This is Eberron, the Dragon Between. Our campaign resides on Khorvaire, the largest of Eberron’s many continents. Eberron’s dragonshards are a blood red and are also commonly called bloodstones.
The innate arcane power of the 3 types of shards has made possible the technological innovations such as airships, lightning rails, and elemental galleons since they offer a long term power source that has been utilitized by the denizens of this world. This also makes Dragonshard prospecting a lucrative business…similar to oil excavations in our world.
